AI in Scientific Research
This initiative focuses on the responsible integration of AI into scientific inquiry. Artificial intelligence can enhance research productivity, support interdisciplinary collaboration, and open new pathways for exploration in fields ranging from medicine and climate science to materials research and social systems. When applied thoughtfully, AI can augment human creativity and insight, allowing scientists to focus more fully on conceptual reasoning, hypothesis formation, and interpretation.
At the same time, the project recognizes that the use of AI in research raises important methodological and ethical questions. Issues of transparency, reproducibility, bias, and accountability must be carefully addressed to ensure that AI-generated insights are reliable and trustworthy. Scientific knowledge depends not only on speed and efficiency, but on rigor, openness, and critical evaluation. AI systems must therefore be designed and governed to support these foundational principles.
The initiative also explores how AI is reshaping the nature of scientific collaboration and expertise. As tools become more powerful, the risk of overreliance on automated systems increases. Maintaining human judgment, ethical responsibility, and contextual understanding remains essential to the integrity of science.
Ultimately, the AI in Scientific Research project seeks to ensure that artificial intelligence strengthens science as a public good. By aligning technological capability with scientific values and social responsibility, the initiative aims to enhance the quality, impact, and trustworthiness of research in service of human security, sustainability, and long-term progress.

Navigating the Artificial Intelligence Landscape
Online, September 4, 2024
This high-level dialogue convenes leaders from national academies to address the dual nature of the AI revolution鈥攊ts unprecedented potential for scientific breakthrough and its profound risks to social and ethical stability. Rather than focusing solely on technical capabilities, the session examines the “AI landscape” through a governance and human-security lens, emphasizing the urgent need for international regulatory frameworks that keep pace with rapid innovation. By bridging the gap between national scientific expertise and global policy requirements, the event seeks to define a coordinated strategy for ensuring that artificial intelligence remains a transparent, accountable tool that serves the collective interests of humanity rather than exacerbating global inequality.
